Delicious

Delicious (formerly del.icio.us) is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing and discovering web bookmarks.

I went a read the PDF file for Social  Bookmarking with Del.icio.us found by Googling del.icio.us. This document gave step by step instructions on how to add a bookmark. I found it extremely easy to follow.

It is all pretty much self explanatory. You just click on add link, paste link, then name. I am still not sure what the purpose of this site would be. It appears that someone will make a page for just about anything.

Flickr

Boy, was this a challenge too. I like that I am getting to know a bunch about other social medias, but I am not sure that I will ever use them. It was fairly easy to upload the pictures I wanted to use for my assignment. It was easy to locate the "tag" section as well. What I found to be difficult was how to figure out what other pictures were tagged using the same descriptive words that I had chosen to use. I am sure with a little more time and effort I will be able to figure it out. Other then what was needed to do to be able to complete this assignment I do not see me using this site after this class.

RedNotebook

RedNotebook includes a calendar navigation, customizable templates, export functionality and word clouds. You can also format, tag and search your entries.

The reason I chose this one was because it is a little like Blogger.com. Even though Blogger.com is a free site I wanted to try out another site to see the comparisons.

RedNotebook is more commonly used for journal entries. You can use hashtags, auto save, back up and export into different formats. It was ok. I am not huge into blogging or keeping a journal but I prefer Blogger.com

Gimp Shop 2.8

Gimpshop is a downloadable photo and image editing software program built to rival Adobe Photoshop.

Gimpshop offers a huge array of filters & dynamic brushes and leading-edge advanced tools that are in high demand. This software will allow you to manipulate your photos into looking like they have been professionally done.

I have always wanted to use Photoshop. I have work a little bit with Ribbit, but that site has very limited features that are for free.

Tux Paint

I chose to download Tux Paint. Tux Paint is an art software to let kids draw and paint. It is geared for children 3 to 12 years. Since I have children within this range I figured it would be good to try it out.
You are presented with a blank canvas and a variety of drawing tools to help them be creative. Along with paintbrush, shapes and text. It has "magic tools" that provides effects like blur, tint and waves. It also has drawing tools, ie. like train tracks, bubbles and grass, which allows you to be creative.
It provides starter images like coloring-book style and photo-realistic, and a large collections of stamps are available as a separate download. I also have the option to download other features my children want to try out.
So far it is a really neat site and they children are enjoying it.

Mashable

Mashable appears to be a site with a lot of useful information if you are interested in staying up to date with current information going on with social media outlets. It appears that Twitter is the hot subject for today. It also shares with you what is happening in the news. It list a bunch of hot topics, videos and stories that are happening in the now. The one thing I did not like is that there are so many advertisements. The site is messy and at times hard to read. Other than that I read some pretty interesting stuff.
